DEXTENZA® (dexamethasone ophthalmic insert) 0.4 mg. Dr. Dee Stephenson looks at patient’s eye through slit lamp. Doctor pulls lid temporally with cotton swab. Pull lid temporally. Doctor picks up dilator from instrument tray. Dilate punctum thoroughly for depth and diameter. Doctor picks up clean cotton swab from instrument tray. Using two cotton swabs, doctor proceeds to dry punctal area. After drying the punctal area, using blunt (non-toothed) forceps, grasp DEXTENZA and insert into the lower lacrimal canaliculus by pulling the lid temporally and inserting nasally. Insert DEXTENZA nasally [toward the nose]. Ensure DEXTENZA is placed just below the punctal opening. Visualization of the insert using yellow filter and blue light.
